We mostly work with public authorities and large international organisations

We help countries in the Global South formulate and revise their climate change strategies and roadmaps. We work with international organisations and government authorities for the design and evaluation of climate change adaptation or mitigation projects (including ecosystem conservation and restoration), programs and policies, eligible for climate finance.

Assessing countries’ readiness for the Paris Agreement and VCM

Diagnostic of institutional frameworks and policies in place to assess countries’ level of readiness for the Paris Agreement and Voluntary Carbon Markets

Strategic

advice and support for NDCs

- Support to countries' nationally determined contributions update: drafting of climate finance roadmaps; building carbon abatement cost curve; integrating countries' commitments into institutions’ mandates

- Designing and implementing activities supporting Nationally Determined Contributions in the Global South

frameworks

Supporting REDD+ frameworks & policy design and jurisdictional programme identification

HAMERKOP carried out for us a study on the potential and viability of carbon finance in several key sectors of Burundi’s economy. It has been a fruitful collaboration benefitting not only the EU Delegation to Burundi, but above all the governmental authorities, the development partners and the stakeholders intervening in this sector.

Case Studies

Chad: Modern Cooking Solutions for Refugees

For the World Food Programme, we investigated and gave recommendations for different cooking solutions to address the clean cooking/energy access problem in Chad, with a specific focus on refugee camps in eastern Chad.

The study was funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and jointly implemented by World Food Programme (WFP), UNHCR, and UNEP/OCHA Joint Environment Unit (JEU).

Burundi: Framework and Policy Assessment

We assessed Burundi’s institutional framework and policies for carbon finance under the Paris Agreement and in relation to voluntary carbon markets. Through analysing the nation’s emissions and natural resource degradation we provided emission reduction suggestions and estimates, as well as an analysis of future carbon finance potential and the country ability to use REDD+ for the Kibira National Park.
